Email Quote of Note
I caught the 8th skunk on Thursday night. Nothing on Friday night. I got a raccoon last night. He was one MAD raccoon when I went to release him.

Site Seeing
Without a doubt the best site we've seen recently is the YouTube video by a 23 year old self-taught Korean guitarist, Jeong-Hyun Lim, playing "Canon Rock." At this writing 8.5 million people have watched the 5:20 minute rock version of Pachelbel's "Canon in D." Lim plays with his head down, covered by a baseball cap, so for months no one knew who it was. Recently, the New York Times revealed Lim's name and the phenom that his Rock Canon has become. The rock version was arranged by JerryC, and his site links to 70 other guitarists playing it. Our favoriate is a 16 year old Peruvian, SeriousDiego, who improvises on Canon Rock.

Thanks for clicking on our page. Check it out. After you look at our latest news, send us email and tell us your news. As you probably know, our address is: snydder -- that's with two d's, one for Dan and one for Dave -- @earthlink.net. Of course, the stuff in italics isn't part of the email address, it's just in there to fool email address scavengers.

Welcome!

The hectic summer of 2006 is over already. It rocketed by for us, highlighted by many opportunities to see family and friends. One of the most enjoyable events was the rendezvous of the Snyder brothers' families in Jackson Hole, WY to remember our late matriarch, Esther Snyder. We hiked with our energetic nieces, Alden and Laura's daughters.

From left, Nora, Anna and Miggie. They are aspiring rock climbers, who have just reached the summit of a dumpster-size bolder.

News and Notes

  • We took a quick trip to Libby, MT to visit the Shadles. On one fishing trip we watched as a forest fire was started by lightening and then was controlled by helicopter. Follow the action! Also, we visited the National Bison Range, a preserve set aside in 1908 to save the last of the buffalo.

  • We took a quick trip to Camp Sherman, OR to visit Jan Cuny and Steve Robinson. They have a cabin along the Metolios River, a legendary fly-fishing river.

Jan and Steve stand by their water wheel. We floated the river, hiked to the top of Black Butte, and visited the "head waters" of the Metolios. The river is fed by huge springs, so it begins as a fully-formed river.

  • We took a quick trip to Lopez Island, WA to visit the Burrs. There are no photos of our visit because we forgot the camera. But there is a great picture of Lopez Island's Watmaugh Head from October 2005.

Enjoy the remainder of the summer!
