This satellite photo of the state of Washington shows the salmonÕs route.

v    Red Arrow – fish enter from the Pacific Ocean.

v    They swim upstream along the Columbia River.

v    The salmon climb Òfish laddersÓ at the dams on the Columbia River (see places where the water is wide); the salmon pass at least 4 dams.

v    They pass the Snake River, which continues east when the Columbia turns north.

v    The salmon do not eat on their journey.

v    After traveling north past two dams, they turn west into the Cascade Mountains.

v    The rivers rise to 3700Õ (1000 m) where we saw them.

v    Red Arrow -- we see the salmon in the Wenatchee River on the EAST side of the mountains.
