Although we have spent quality time with friends since we moved to Vancouver, it hasn't all been party time. There is work to do. We are digitizing all of the 35mm slides. That's 22 trays of roughly 600 slides per tray.

Here J sorts the slides and removes the duds and duplicates before they are digitized. The digitizer is to the right of the laptop. It is fun to see ourselves in the 60s and 70s ... we were totally groovy.

News & Notes

  • Dan and Tomoko have moved to a new apartment in Dublin GA. It is a townhouse and it has the same layout as a townhouse we had when L was an assistant professor. Not much changes in academia.

  • Melissa Rabelhofer and Brendan Healy took a break from planning their wedding to visit for a weekend. We did the major tour sites including Granville Island Market, seen here, where we got provisions for dinner.

  • Shelley and Ken Burr visited the next weekend, giving us a chance to breakfast at the Naam, a restaurant little changed since it was established in 1968. The weather was gorgeous so we hiked at Point Atkinson Lighthouse and toured the UBC Botanical Garden.

  • Carolyn and Art Harano were in town for Vancouver's summer fireworks competition. We spent a delightful, intimate evening with them and 150,000 others.

  • Each summer Vancouver holds a fireworks competition over English Bay. Three countries battle to make smoke, light and noise over four nights. We have seen countries as different as South Africa, Sweden (amazing!!) and Spain. This year it is Canada, US and China.

Canada began with a terrific show that will be tough to beat!

Just In! The US shows novel new fireworks such as a 5 pointed star, but is handicapped by smoke accumulation.

Did you know that there are a dozen popular browser programs? Most of these are "open source" browsers, which means they are free and usually much SAFER, FASTER and more up-to-date than Internet Explorer. The best of the "open source" browsers is FireFox. Our Coordinates Page works best with Firefox. Get a free copy of Firefox in your favorite language ... we are sure you will like it.
