Volcanoes
dominate the vistas. Sheep range widely
across the mountains, converting moss and lichen into Stage 1 Icelandic
sweaters.
The tallest
volcanoes have huge glaciers. The run-off
rivers create spectacular falls and provide Iceland with abundant
hydro-electric power. (Unfortunately,
our pix of the huge Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir, the original, are for the moment stranded on regular film!)
We saw the
ground plants in their fall colors.
Blueberry and heather are common.
Mushrooms are also numerous.
In this
picture are the ruins of lava stone fences used to corral sheep from 1840 –
1940.
From the Hávamál
the Norse “Tao” …
He is truly wise
who’s traveled far
and knows the ways of the world.
He who’s travelled
can tell what spirit
governs the men he meets.
