Food and Friends

A classic Icelandic food is dried fish.  Here J buys haddock (the local choice) from a Iocal who advises spreading butter on it.   And the happy eater.  It was one of our favorites.

Flat bread is a rye pancake as thin as a crepe.  It’s great with blueberries.  We also ate skyr – a yogurt like cheese, lamb, Icelandic lobsters, guillemot (a sea bird), cod chins (yes, the chins of cod fish) and plaice.  We liked all of it and hope some of it is available in Ballard.

Hannes Jonssón and Helga "lafsdottir hosted a dinner at his mother’s house.  She is a lovely woman with many interesting stories to tell about the early years in Reykjavik and convoying to the US during World War II.  Dined at By the Pond, Hannes and Helga’s favorite restaurant with Jim and Margaret Doll from Brown.
