Camping

Camping’s not for everyone. But when we came across spectacular places, we wanted to be able to spend the night, and for that you must camp. Camping isn’t much of a hardship, however. It’s like home: Make a morning espresso; enjoy an evening glass of wine.

We camped at Misty Meadows campground on the beach near Tlell.

We camped on Agate Beach at the north end of  Graham Island. It’s called Agate Beach because of the lovely quartz stones that are smoothed by the surf. We didn’t look very hard for agates.

The road to Rennell Sound on the Pacific side of Graham Island is steep, but the trip is worth it to reach Bonanza Beach.

On our way to Bonanza Beach we spotted a black bear. When we camped we had to be careful not to attract any bear’s interest with our food and cooking.  Here’s Julie in our Class 10 kitchen on Bonanza Beach. And our tent site is pretty classy, too. Bonanza Beach is very isolated: no boats, no vehicles, no people within 100 Km.

Our last campsite was at Gray Beach. There are many huge spruce trees there. The spruce we camped under kept our tent dry in the Haida Gwaii mist.
