When
a kazoo band carrying the Columbian flag marches past your house, it's
time to abandon your easy chair and find out what's up.
It
was The Ultimate! Actually, it was the start of the 2008 World
Championships in Ultimate Frisbee. This week Columbia and 20 other
countries will compete in mens, womens, mixed and masters matches. We
watched the opening ceremony as 1400 athletes and coaches paraded into
the UBC stadium. They carried flags, drums, noise makers, stuffed
animals, and assorted banners.
Can you name the countries? You're right! They are Australia, China
(using the Olympic flag), Columbia, Dominican Republic, Finland,
France, Great Britain, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan,
Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland,
US, Venezuela, Canada.
News & Notes
We
had dinner with our Vancouver friends Anne Condon, Scott Rose, and
their children Fiona and Emil. An evening with the four of them is good
food (fresh raspberries from their garden), good drink (Scott is the
Mojito King!) and great conversation. Scott, Anne and Fiona
Barbara and David Mizell visited from Seattle. They have been to
Vancouver many times, so we headed to some places where tour buses
don't stop. This is the Van Dusen garden, a Vancouver gem. David and Barbara
The fireworks update. The Chinese put on a terrific display including everything from awe-inspiring bombast to
smiley faces. Really, a firework smiley face!
China won the People's Choice Award.
The finale was anticlimactic after the great individual shows. Still, there were a few beautiful displays.
To keep our garden in mind while we are away this year, we have added a photo page of some of our plants.
Check it out.

which means they are free and usually much SAFER, FASTER and more up-to-date than Internet Explorer.
The best of the "open source" browsers is FireFox. Our Coordinates Page works best with Firefox. Get a
