Thursday In Barcelona

It's not correct to say Barcelona has become boring, but we have settled into a regular, though relaxed, pattern of daily activities ... today developed differently.

Spinning for Glory The routine was broken early, when we realized that the event taking place at the arch across the street wasn't a rock concert, but a "bike ride" on stationary bikes!

It was an attempt to break the world "spinning record" with 500 riders at a time. There was rock music, big screen images of the Tour de France and a "motivational" leader. It was pretty exciting for a Thursday in the 'hood.

Then Came The Clunk L heard a clunk nearby, possibly in the next apartment. Then J arrived home from the market with a building inspector and the Bombers Squad of the Barcelona fire department. The street below had already been taped off.

Apparently, a chunk of our building fell off. The question was, "Where did the chunk come from and are anymore on the way?" There was the inspection from the inside.

The hook-and-ladder truck came, and there was an inspection from the outside.

There was an inspection that started on the outside and ended on the inside.

Finally, SeƱor Perez of Bomber Barcelona fame pronounced Operation "Dead Gargoyle" over. All clear!

And Then The Tour Started For reasons we do not understand a segment of the Tour de France -- yes, that Tour de France -- passed by our house. (The Spanish house with the dead gargoyle on the sidewalk.)

The excitement built and then the first rider shot by behind the pace pigeon.

Close behind Thor Hushovd (believed to be first) came a pack of fast riders to the cheers of the crowd.

They're fast, they're impressive and they're exciting to watch!

And then they're gone!

Just another Thursday in Barcelona. Buenas Noches!
