Email Quote of Note
A correspondent writes "A glorious fall morning here, 48 degrees and sunny. Stopped by the farmers market ... this morning to pick up a pack of kolaches before work."

Welcome!

Thanks for clicking on our page. Check it out. After you look at our latest news, send us email and tell us your news. As you probably know, our address is: snydder -- that's with two d's, one for Dan and one for Dave -- @earthlink.net. Of course, the stuff in italics isn't part of the email address, it's just in there to fool email address scavengers.

There is lots of news!

We spent the Labor Day Weekend visiting our friends Ken and Shelley Burr at their cottage on Lopez Island in Washington's San Juan Islands. We took a hike to the top of Watmough (WOT ma) Head for a picnic.

In the background is Watmough Bay. We watched a seal playing in the bay, probably because the whales were nowhere to be seen.

News and Notes

  • We drove our Prius to Iowa City, Iowa to settle Esther Snyder's estate. The whole trip was 4500 miles (7000 K) long.
  • We saw Dan (and Tomoko, his girlfriend) in Iowa City. He is very busy teaching and finishing his PhD dissertation, but he joined us when we took time out from our work for meals.

Who did he inherit that beautiful smile from???
  • We drove to Nauvoo, Illinois to see our Aunt Lillian Snyder. She just celebrated her 91st birthday!
  • Then we drove to Chicago to see Dave. His play, The Story of Figs, was part of the Chicago Arts Festival called the Rhino Festival. (We don't know why it has that name.) His friend Chrissie acted in the play. We're not biased when we say it was terrific !

It was hot in Chicago, but these two cooks stayed in the kitchen!
  • In Sturgis, South Dakota we stopped to watch the sheep dog herding finals sponsored by the US Border Collie Handlers Association. It is beautiful on the prairie, the handlers are very friendly and the dogs are amazing.

This dog is separating his five sheep into a group of two and a group of three for his handler. Check out the page from our last visit to the USBCHA trials.
  • And, here's an end-of-summer photo -- Skipper and Lavender -- taken on Lopez Island.

Are digital cameras great, or what?
The rains have come to Seattle now, so stop by and join us to watch the new rain chain in action.
