The graphic technique of morphing one image into another has been used in several stunning sequences on YouTube. The two most note worthy are Women in Art and Women in Film.

Welcome!

Summer is racing by, packed with travel and visits from our friends. There is a lot to report since the last Web page was released. Our friends came from Paris! We spent a week enjoying the delights of the Northwest, including the Olympic mountains and Dungeness crabs.

And what could be more fun on a pleasant summer evening than going to the baseball game to cheer for the Mariners?

News and Notes

  • In June we dashed out to Illinois for business, allowing us to spend a few days with Dan and Tomoko. It was our first trip to visit them in Galesburg, and to see the campus of Knox College, where Dan has been teaching for the past year. We saw the gorgeous Seymour Library, the site of the first Lincoln-Douglas debate about slavery, and Carl Sandberg's boyhood home, now a national historical site.

  • Returning to Chicago, we spent part of the weekend with Dave, seeing his garden and going to an art show.

He also took us to a wheelchair softball game, which was fascinating. The game is played on a special field (funded by the Chicago Cubs) and follows the standard rules, though the batting box and bases are somewhat larger. As this batter shows, most players batted one handed and put chocks under their wheels to keep them from rolling back.

  • A highpoint of the summer was a party in Tokyo to celebrate Dan and Tomoko's marriage last year.

About the only thing that could eclipse Dave dressed in a snappy dark suit is Julie wearing a kimono. There's more about this wonderful party.

  • After adpating to the heat of Tokyo, we were ready to move on to the next level: The heat of Kyoto.

We revisited some of our favorite gradens including Takashi Kawamoto's, Heian-ji, Nanzen-ji, Ryoan-ji.

  • Dan has taken a tenure-track position at Middle Georgia College. He will be teaching subjects in his specialty such as geology and dinosaurs. In July, he and Tomoko moved to Dublin, GA, right before flying to Japan for the wedding party. So far, their main report is that it is hot!

  • Dave continues to write. He has a small studio above a lumber yard, where many artists work. The artists and writers held a weekend arts festival called "Lumb-Art", where they displayed their work, and Dave read some of his writing.

Our pond has a new pump, so stop by and watch the waterfalls.
