"Summertime ... an' the livin' is easy" as they sing in Porgy and Bess. It's a wonderful time to sit on the balcony and just watch the world go by ...

News & Notes
Though the living IS easy in Seattle, the travelin' is pretty good, too. So, we spent a weekend in Vancouver with Brendan and Melissa.
Enjoying the Forest Walk at the Capilano Fish Hatchery
Tops on everyone's list was a visit to the Richmond Night Market. Like all night markets Richmond's has its own unique flavor, but it may be most similar to Taiwan's. For example, one extremely tasty flavor they share with Taiwan is grilled octopus! Yum! One flavor that probably isn't at the Taiwan night market is the deep fried Snickers bar. Yum?We stopped by for a brief visit with Jim and Julie in Libby MT. Summertime is always a joy on their balcony by the Kootenai River. Jim and L poked up the back roads into the mountains to a favorite huckleberry patch. We joined other visitors to savor Doug and Dolly's flowers. Their place was beautiful enough for a magazine photo shoot!

As in previous years we joined Ken and Shelley at their home on Lopez Island in Washington's San Juan Islands to spend the Labor Day weekend checking out the Lopez Art Studio Tour. It's always great fun to see the artworks! And, like last year we caught 10 Dungeness Crabs.
With summer nearing its end in the mountains we reprised our 2009 hike along the Tonga Ridge Trail. It has both panoramic views as well as beautiful meadows. We again picked huckleberries, but this time there was a bear somewhere along the trail. We never made his or her acquaintance, however.

We asked last time "if the pickles are done, can the soup be far behind?" And, indeed, here are the ingredients just a half hour before they became tomato basil soup.
Look What's Cooking!
And, we have a nice photo of our garden pond, which probably needs some salmon!
